Do these things well, so that your inverter can work calmly even in the scorching summer

Summer is always accompanied by high temperatures and scorching heat. Not only do you and I want to escape the heat, but machines will also perform a craze! As a frequency converter widely used in the industrial field, the high temperature in summer and the high temperature generated by the operation of the frequency converter itself have always been the main culprits for the high incidence of faults. Numerous studies and practices have shown that as the ambient temperature increases, the failure rate of frequency converters also increases, and the theoretical lifespan of components decreases.

1、 Ensure the normal operation of the fan

Reason: If the fan of the frequency converter or cabinet does not run smoothly, it will cause most of the heat to accumulate inside and not dissipate.

Countermeasure: Check if the fan is working properly. We can use the 'three-step method':

1. Look. Observe whether the power cord of the fan is detached, damaged, and whether the fan blades are broken.

2. Listen up. Listen carefully for any abnormal noise from the fan.

3. Measure. Use a multimeter to measure if the fan voltage is normal, usually around 24V.

If the inspection results are abnormal, it is necessary to repair or replace the fan in a timely manner.

2、 Ensure that the air duct is unobstructed

Reason: When the air duct of the frequency converter or control cabinet is blocked, it will affect the heat dissipation inside the machine and cause overheating alarm. How to determine if the air duct is blocked:

A simple method is to first place a thin piece of paper at the air inlet and observe if there are any signs of the paper being sucked in. Then place it at the air outlet and see if the paper is floating.

Countermeasure: Regularly detoxify the air duct, remove garbage, and ensure smooth airflow.

3、 Maintain a suitable ambient temperature

Reason: There are many electronic components inside the frequency converter, which generate heat during operation. If the ambient temperature is too high, it is not conducive to the dissipation of internal heat.

Countermeasure: If conditions permit, air conditioning can be installed. If there is no air conditioning, it is best to open the cabinet door of the control cabinet and use a fan to reduce the ambient temperature. If the temperature exceeds 40 ℃, special attention should be paid.

4、 Regular maintenance and upkeep

Reason: During long-term use, frequency converters are affected by surrounding conditions such as temperature, humidity, and dust, which can cause aging and corrosion of components.

Countermeasure: As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. Before the arrival of high temperatures, we need to maintain and upkeep the frequency converter

1. Universal frequency converters should be avoided from being placed in places with direct sunlight, humidity, and water droplets, and ensure that the surrounding air does not contain excessive dust, acids, salts, corrosive and explosive gases (except for EN610 series high protection frequency converters).

2. To improve the cooling effect, all frequency converters should be installed vertically.

When the temperature is high in summer, it is necessary to strengthen the ventilation and heat dissipation of the installation site of the frequency converter. For example, adjusting the distance between the frequency converter and surrounding obstacles: ≥ 125px on both sides, ≥ 300px above and below.

3. Regularly clean the dust inside and outside the frequency converter to ensure smooth cooling air flow.

4. In order to prevent foreign objects from falling on the air outlet of the inverter and blocking the air duct, it is best to install a protective mesh cover above the air outlet of the inverter.

5. Strengthen inspections, regularly check the operating status of the frequency converter, and measure whether the voltage and current values during operation are within the normal range.
